CORPUS CHRISTI
Apr 10 all-day

You can access the film here.

CORPUS CHRISTI was one of the other four completely-overlooked films nominated for a Best Foreign Language Oscar last year, thanks to Parasite.  Anchored by a “dynamically physical, wild-eyed performance” (The Hollywood Reporter) from newcomer Bartosz Bielenia, CORPUS CHRISTI is an incisive, darkly humorous, and engrossing exploration of faith, second chances, and the possibility of atonement.  After spending years in a Warsaw prison for a violent crime, 20-year-old Daniel (Beilenia)–who, over the course of his incarceration has found Christ and aspires to join the clergy–is released and sent to a remote village to work as a manual laborer.  When Daniel arrives in town, one quick lie allows him to be mistaken for the town’s new priest, and he sets about leading his newfound flock.  Though he has no training, his passion and charisma inspire the community.  At the same time, his unconventional sermons and unpriestly behavior raise suspicions among some of the townsfolk – even more so as he edges towards a dark secret that the community hasn’t revealed in the confessional booth.

EXTRA ORDINARY
Apr 10 all-day

Extra Ordinary is a horror/rom-com hybrid that somehow manages to blend its ingredients without losing their flavor, and more than lives up to its title.  Rose, a sweet, small town driving instructor, is gifted with supernatural abilities, “The Talents”, which mean she can talk to the spirit world but after a wee childhood trauma  she turns her back on them.  Meanwhile, in a large castle outside town, Christian Winter (played with aplomb by the incredible Will Forte!), a washed up rockstar, has a sinister plan to sell his soul for renewed musical success.  He needs to sacrifice a virgin and puts a spell on local teen Sarah, whose father Martin asks Rose to help him.  Martin, meanwhile, is haunted by the spiteful ghost of his deceased wife.  Rose and Martin must now work together to save his daughter, stop a hell hole from opening, thwart Christian’s evil plan, deliver a baby, save a dying magpie, and get rid of Martin’s ex-wife before the whole world collapses in front of their very eyes….
