The Magical Mechanical Science of Stop Motion Film

Discover the science behind some of the most fantastical voyages in stop motion film with Georgina Hayns, creative supervisor and puppet fabricator for the Oscar-nominated Laika Animation Studio. She will unwind the magical mechanical genius of Ray Harryhausen, special effects master of 60’s era cult classic films like Jason and the Argonauts and The 7th Voyage of Sinbad. Learn about classic techniques in stop motion animation and how animators today combine technical and creative skills to build puppet armature.

Georgina has worked in all aspects of puppet fabrication for stop-motion films for over twenty years and at Laika Studies since 2006. She has worked on the films The Boxtrolls, ParaNorman, Coraline, Mars Attacks!, Periwig Maker and Corpse Bride as well as the TV series Bob the Builder.
