J.U.M.P. Society Membership Open House Soiree!

October 24, 2018 @ 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

JUMP Society Membership Night!

The JUMP Society has been active in Juneau since 2002 but we’re relatively new to being a non-profit organization. Our by-laws say we’re supposed to hold an annual membership meeting but we’re picturing it more as an open house, party, screening, hands-on film-making night.

We want to get local filmmakers together to talk about work, dream about future projects and just hang out. And we want to share that with the community in a meaningful way.

We’re just in the planning phases now, get in touch if you have ideas! Here’s what we’ve been getting excited about so far…

Of course we couldn’t resist the chance to dust off some old classics. We’re going to throw a bunch of old films in rotation and have them running all night. Any requests? Any offerings?

Hands-on Filmmaking Activities
We’ll have a stop motion animation station setup and possibly a green screen or VFX station as well so people can roll up their sleeves and mess around with filmmaking.  If you’re a filmmaker and want to take the lead on an other activity, let us know!

Prop Museum
We’ll be turning the hallway into a pop-up museum for JUMP Society props. Perhaps a “Valley Go Home” sign from a certain JUMP Society classic?  And Anton Doiron will bring in some of his handmade props from that local classic, Space Trucker Bruce.  Anyone else have props to contribute? Maybe we can talk Arlo into bringing his pimped out couch or find Frankie’s garbage can lid?  Please contact us to contribute.

JUMP Society Lab
Did you know the JUMP Society now exists in a physical location? We’ve got a multimedia space we’re in the process of outfitting just down the hall from the Gold Town and it will soon be accessible to JUMP Society members who want a place to edit films, shoot interviews, experiment with lighting, record podcasts or try out a green screen.

We’re still setting up the space and accepting donations of decent computers, microphones, mixers, lights and other resources that might benefit local filmmakers. We’ve started a small library stocked with screenplays, books on screenwriting, magazines and films from all over Alaska. Anyone want to check out “Raven’s Blood” on VHS?

So when is all this happening?
Wednesday, October 24th, 5:30 – 7:30
At Gold Town Theater & JUMP Society Lab in the Emporium.

If you have ideas for what you’d like this event to be, please get in touch and let us know!
